Tennis Pro! (or...not so much.)
Yesterday evening was my first tennis lesson, and the second activity in Cori's "get out of my freaking apartment plan," the first activity being book club. My friend Carolyn and I are taking tennis lessons through the Parks and Rec district here in Sacramento and we had no idea what to expect. What does $52 for eight lessons get you, exactly?
It was super fun! Most of the class attendees were much like me and Carolyn -- women, probably single, between 20 and 35. Dudes, if you want to meet some ladies, try a tennis class at the park. There was also a older mommish type lady, and one guy who was there with his wife. When we got to the park, we all loitered around the entrance to the courts and asked each other, "Are you here for the lessons? Do you know what's going on?" Luckily the teacher showed up and shouted, "HEY YOU ALL! Are you here for the 5:30 beginner adult tennis lessons?" Yes, teacherman. Yes we were.
We filed onto the court and got in a circle. The very funny teacher taught us how to hold the racket for a forehand shot, and how to hit the ball without a) killing anyone or b) sending it into the stratosphere. We all rallied a bit. We learned how to hold the racket for a backhand shot (which seemed, to me, like trying to hit a baseball left-handed. V. difficult.). We rallied a bit. There was a point when the whole class had to collect a million tennis balls from the other side of the court. Give me seven more lessons, and bring on Andy Roddick! For a date, I mean. No number of lessons will protect my face when he hits the ball in my direction and I don't even see it coming because I'm drooling at him.
I apologize. I'm shameless sometimes. ;-)

.....uh......um........
I'm sorry, what were you saying?
That is one distracting picture!
For real, though, have fun. Learning tennis sounds like fun.
"Like Taco Bell."
I just about choked when I read that.
You're more than welcome to the best seats in the house when I am a tennis pro. That's a promise!
Excellent!! Glad to hear the class was a success! Was there any muscle aching this morning??
Roddick's supposed to be a head-case, so don't plan anything long-term -- you might just want to lob him and leave him. (I kill myself sometimes...)
And no, I'm not sore today. But it wasn't too much of a workout. I'm sure once we really get going that my arm will be aching a little!
i'm glad you had a good time. i think i need to find an activity i enjoy doing. cuz i kinda hate exercise. maybe if andy roddick was my tennis instructor, i'd want to play. hrm... hehe.
I suck at tennis so badly it's not even funny. When I was kid I just gave up and played baseball, where hitting a ball long and over the fence is a considered a good thing.
No kidding! I wonder where all the single men are to be found.
I did see that the Parks and Rec district offers an Introductory Ukulele class...
Yeah, I definitely need to learn some control with how far I hit the ball. "Far" is not the goal of the game in tennis!
I'm more into the Banjo and singling falsetto. :)
