Lovin'
- Spent the weekend with Noelle! We had a lovely time. She got us a killer deal on a room at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco, so we spent the evening wishing we had such high-thread-count sheets. We wandered around SF on Saturday -- brunch, Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The next day we puttered around Rocklin, looking in some of the home goods stores there (I bought a new lamp! I love lamp!), and then came back to my house and laughed our faces off while watching Eddie Izzard (cake or death?) and Jim Gaffigan (hoooot poooocket).
- Day after tomorrow I'll be in Texas to visit Jen! I am really looking forward to seeing her and to having four days where I don't have to think about work! I can't wait.
- Dinner last night with my friend Ava who I haven't seen in ages. Turns out we both moved to the same part of town. Hope to see her around more!
- Leftovers from when Noelle was here -- sausage pasta yesterday and stir fry today! Delicioso.
Loathin'
- I am running out of time to do things! I have about a thousand things I need to get done...and about eight free minutes between now and March. And all I really want to do is sleep.
- My car window is broken. I'm praying that it just came off its track and that it can be fixed fairly inexpensively.
- I need my big 80,000 mile service for my car. It ain't gonna come cheap, especially because the poor car is shuddering when I accelerate. Or when I use the AC (*dig* at all my friends who don't live in California). I think something needs to be flushed out. It used to run so smoothly!
- Trying to finish my book club book before tomorrow night. I still have 200 pages. Not sure if that's going to happen!
- My parents are still in Australia, which is good for them, but not so fun for me. I'm having to cook my own dinner. *horrors*
- While I get to see Jen, that also necessitates that I get on an airplane on Thursday. At 6:50am. Boo.
Today I took a random vacation day and went to San Francisco with my roommate Sheena. What a great way to make a week go by faster -- take Wednesday off! Anyway, we got freaked out by carnivorous plants at the Conservatory, ran around and interrupted the peace of the Japanese Tea Gardens, ate a fabulous Italian lunch in North Beach, bought a few new things (including a gorgeous new blue coat -- see photos) at H&M, and ran/skipped/pranced across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Tennis Lessons
Last night was my final tennis lesson (at least for this class). It was by far my favorite of the class, mostly because someone brought margaritas to the potluck and somehow that made my useless serve a little better. I am going to take the beginner lessons one more time along with a few other girls in the class. I would have liked to move up, but my serve isn't good enough to put me in the advanced beginner class. But I'm fine with taking the first class again, mostly because I'm making friends and having a good time.
Condo
I get my keys tomorrow for sure! Everything is all set, they just have to go on record with the county and then the house is mine all mine! To celebrate, my parents and my new roommate Sheena and I are having dinner at the condo tomorrow night, since, if you recall, I got the dining table with the place so there's already somewhere for us to eat. Plus, this gives my parents a chance to meet Sheena so that when they are moving my stuff in on Saturday, it's not all awkward.
Vacation
My trip is still on. Apparently I can get to my friends in Iowa despite the flooding, although I have a feeling I'm going to see some devistation like I've never seen before since I'm going right through Cedar Rapids. After Iowa I am visiting Chicago to see two friends I went to grad school with -- Kate and Hillary. Kate, however, will only be there for Thursday night because on Friday she is flying to San Francisco with her fiance. PUNK. We're totally doing a switcheroo! I wish she'd come a different weekend -- I'll take any excuse to drive out to the City for dinner! Oh well. It will be nice to see her for that one day.
Other Things In Life
- I'm mildly obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance. I don't watch a lot of reality TV, but dang, those kids have some serious talent.
- I'm also watching the Mole, which was the first reality show that I ever really watched and loved. Don't tell, but I still love it.
- Because I cannot turn my brain off, I've been getting between five and six hours of sleep instead of my usual eight. My deed of trust for my house now says, Cori Ashley, a zombie woman.
- I have too many things to do before I leave on my vacation, but I can't do any of them at my office even though we have nothing to do. It's frustrating to sit here doing nothing when I have so much to do!
- I hate to fly. I mean, I HATE TO FLY. While I'm super-excited about my vacation, I am not excited about getting on a plane on Saturday. Any advice on making it any easier?
Siobhan and I headed out to San Francisco today. We had a few reasons for our trip:
- I love San Francisco and will use any excuse to go out there, no matter how lame.
- We wanted to hit Union Square for some shopping. A few of my favorite stores live in San Fran, and it's nice to go visit them, including H&M and Anthropologie. I had easy access to both these stores when I lived in Boston, but now they are an hour and a half away. Dumb geography.
- I had a craving for Rice-A-Roni.
- I needed to try and curb my ache to travel lately, an ache that seems relentless since I have no vacation time.
- But the main reason was that it was only 65 in the city today, whereas it topped the century mark in Sacramento. We wanted a respite from the heat!
As we were driving, we watched the mercury fall (well, we watched Siobhan's digital thermometer). It was so cool when we (finally, after searching for parking) got out of the car. Loved it. Siobhan and I wandered around Union Square, doing a good job not to spend a lot of money. I can't believe I only bought two shirts the whole day. Way to go, personal restraint!
Siobhan and I decided to leave the city via the Golden Gate instead of the Bay Bridge, because the drive through Sausalito and Marin County is gorgeous. As we drove over the bridge, I noticed a lot of people wearing pink were walking across. It took a few seconds to hit me -- the Avon Breast Cancer Walk was going on! The same one I'm going to train to walk in next summer. It was awesome to see all these women (and a few men) doing something I am planning on doing. I talked to a few women, and they said it was not impossible and totally worth it. Below are a few windblown photos of me and Siobhan. It was crazy windy and cold on the Golden Gate. Still, it's awesome and if you're ever in the city, I highly recommend it. :)
